My review of 'Galaxy' by War
"People moving to and fro, to a sonic band and a laser show"
"Superman, Batman going all night. Playing one on one with a meteorite!"
"Don't have to wear no fancy lace, just funky feelin' and a lot of taste"
There's some great horns and harmonica accompaniment and solos throughout.
'Galaxy' is a really great cosmic funk track with some superb punchy vocals.
Biography for the funk band 'War'
During the height of the disco era in the late 70's, although being predominantly a funk band who addressed social issues such as racism, the band managed to retain a lot of its popularity thanks to the mid paced cosmic disco dance track 'Galaxy'. 'Galaxy' by war reached no. 14 in the UK top 40.
'War' then went on to release the soundtrack for the film 'Youngblood' in 1978 and continued to produce albums in the 80's though their popularity had waned since it's peak in the mid 70's.
In the 1990's 'War' were often sampled by hip hop artists and welcomed the use of samples 'sampling' of their music and released the Album 'Rap declares War' in 1992.
Some of the original members of the band went on to form 'The Low rider Band'. However, Lonnie Jordan is still in the band and 'War' will be touring in 2009 and will be joined by Eric Burdon.
