My review of Keep on Jumpin' by 'Musique'

I think there has been so many samples and re-issues / re-edits and re-mixes of this track that I'd be very surprised if someone managed to get through their life without hearing it at least once. The intro builds nicely with the drums and guitar but then they almost vanish as the horns and strings come in. I love the way this track has been mixed, there's a really good balance between the parts; the horns and strings aren't too dominant, even though they are really carrying the main melody, which follows the vocal melody quite closely making the track quite catchy. The instrumental section has a really nice electronic 'boing' which would seem out of place in a lot of music, but NOT here! The bass line is fast and drives the track along, whilst the drums and bongos/percussion are kept fairly minimal.Great vocals and a seriously good tune and very well produced

Mini Biography for 'Musique'

'Musique' consisted of Patrick Adams at the helm and 4 female vocalists - Jocelyn Brown, Christine Wiltshire, Angela Howell, and Gina Tharps. Formed in 1978 as a studio group to keep the New York nights clubs beating, the group were signed to the 'Prelude' record label and released their first album 'Keep on Jumping' and the debut single 'In the bush'. 'In the Bush' was popular in the clubs but had some restricted radio play - and some radio stations decided to ban it completely - due to the controversial lyrics. It did however top the US dance charts and manage to get to number 58 in the US Billboard 100. It also and reached a very respectable number 16 in the UK top 40 chart in November 1978. The follow up single, the title track 'Keep on Jumping' for which François Kervorkian (Francois K) provided the 12" re-mix was an instant dance floor success.The vocalist line-up for the second album, 'Musique II', consisted of Mary Seymour, Denise Edwards, and Gina Taylor. Jocelyn Brown was unfortunately not in the line-up but was the lead vocalist for another of Patrick Adam's groups 'Inner Life'. She later went on to a solo career as well as doing various guest and backing vocals throughout the 1980's. She collaborated with artists including 'Cerrone' 'Incognito' 'The all stars collective'. She will also have been heard by millions singing "I've got the power!" when her solo single 'Love's Gonna Get You' was sampled by 'Snap!' from the UK.

The second album wasn't as successful, and the project ended in 1980.
