Peter Brown - Do Ya Wanna Get Funky with me

My review of 'Do you wanna get funky with me' by Peter Brown

A uniquely slow paced and slightly mysterious sounding track, with some quite dark and mysterious lyrics about a temptress and her seduction technique. It's fairly atmospheric with some great instrumental breaks, with a plodding synth bass line, after which the tune just seems to erupt with the vocals 'Oh no no no.... I felt the heat within, the lust of love and the urge to sin, I felt her reachin' for my soul" (as the temptress gets her way) "and then I knew I had no choice, but to heed the command of the devil's voice......

DO YA WANNA GET FUNKY WITH ME? DO YA WANNA?

Maybe the song is trying to relate to the tempting and possibly quite addictive night club scene in 1978. Or then again it could have been a personal encounter with the Devil herself!

So be wary of having an 'idle mind' cos they're a 'playground for the devil'

Mini Biography for 'Peter Brown'....

Peter Brown was born in Blue Island, Illinois, which is just 14 miles South of Chicago. He started playing drums as a teenager and also learned the piano / synthesizer and could also sing. He got interested in producing and recording at a young age and got signed to 'Drive' a subsidary label of the Miami based T.K records, owned by Henry Stone. One of his demo tracks turned out to be the first million record selling single: 'Do Ya Wanna Get Funky with me'. The Song was recorded at his home, as a demo, with Peter playing the majority of the instruments himself and over-dubbing them on a simple 4-track. He later added backing vocals and fine tuned it at the Florida 'TK Records' studio. The single reached number 18 in the Billboard chart in the US. Cory Wade produced his first Album 'A Fantasy Love Affair' which was released in later in the year and included 'Dance with me' which reached number 8' in the US Billboard chart.

His second album 'Stargazer' was released in 1979, also on the 'Drive' label included the single 'Crank it Up (funk town)'. Peter Brown went on to release two further albums in the eighties, Back To The Front (RCA Victor) in 1982 and 'Snap (CBS) in 1984.

Peter Brown wrote and arranged many of his own tracks and recorded the majority in his home studio and would later mix in additional backing vocals and strings - what ever was necessary for each track. Peter Brown is hailed as a pioneer of home recording.

Peter Brown also went on to co-write Madonna's hit 'Material Girl' with Robert Rans.
