Aquarian Dream - Gettum up and chance to dance

My review of Chance to dance by 'Aquarian Dream'

This is a really fast paced track with superb bongos and a bass line that rockets along. I love the way the strings and the guitar work together almost as an echo of each other. The vocals are uplifting and great for the club dance floor and there's a nice sax solo. The track seems to never let up, and it's as if the fadeout ending was needed cos the band's momentum just took over!

Gettum up and Dance by 'Aquarian Dream'

Right from the intro the bass line and keys' syncopation is superb, and the entrance of the drums, hand claps and guitars lock a truly danceable rhythm to your feet. Both the lead vocals and vocal chorus backing vocals are strong with good melodic expression. There's also some great flute work throughout accompanying strings

Mini Biography

Aquarian Dream were formed by Norman Connors a Philadelphia jazz drummer who released his own material as well as playing with other artists, including Michael Henderson, Jean Carn, and Phyllis Hyman. He also drummed for Pharaoh Sanders, and John Coltrane (as a stand in). Aquarian Dream played a mixture of soulful jazz funk and disco. The band were signed to Buddha records and later moved to the Elektra record label. They had little commercial success on either label but their music was both rich and enjoyable. Their track 'Phoenix' was a popular Chicago club track and is still a favorite amongst disco funk fans. The Group dispanded in 1979.
