Gino Soccio - Try it out

My review of 'Try it Out' by Gino Soccio

The track has a really steady pace to it and builds slowly with some great breaks making it great for DJ mixing. The synth sounds are crisp and airy and the bass line subtly progresses adding extra hooks as the track builds. The vocals aren't too dominant and work well with the saxophone phrasing. The trumpet solo is full of expression with a good balance of jazz and funk. The lyrics are thought provoking and uplifting.

Classic uplifting electronic disco funk!

Another classic track by Gino, 'Dancer' appears on the fantastic Azuli Records Choice series by Louie Vega

Mini Biography for 'Gino Soccio'

Gino Soccio was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. As a child he learnt to play the piano and soon started to play keyboards and synthesizers. Although classically trained and multi talented Gino found himself drawn to disco and funk as the music would allow experimentation and gave him the freedom to express himself as he wanted. His first taste of the record industry was writing and recording keyboards for 'Kebekelektrik' on the track 'War Drums', for their self titled 1977 album. During this time he also worked with the band 'Witch Queen' on their track 'Bang-a-gong'. Both records were fairly successful, but Gino's first, debut single 'Dancer' went to number one in the US dance chart. Signed to the Warner record label, Gino Soccio's debut album 'Outline' was released in 1979 and featured 'Dancer' and his next two singles 'The Vistors' and 'Dance to Dance'. Busta Jones provided vocals for the album and Gino Soccio went on to produce Bustas' self titled debut 'Busta Jones', released the following year. He also played keyboards on 'Bombers' self titled album in 1978; produced 'Karen Silver's' album, 'Hold on I'm coming' in 1979 and worked on 'Mighty Pope's 1979 album 'Sway'.

Gino's follow-up album, 'S-beat' was released in 1980, followed by two further albums, 'Closer' (1981) and 'Face to Face' (1982). In 1984 he released 'Remember' a collection of his best work, which included the hits 'Dancer', 'The Visitors' and an instrumental version of 'Try it out'. Gino Soccio's music developed with the development of new electronic synthesizers and drum machines. He adopted different styles including a more European 'high Energy' disco sound - a good example of one of his more electronic tracks is 'Remember' from 1982 which was a dance floor hit in both Europe and the US- ; synth-pop/rock and new wave.

Gino continued to produce work for Karen Silver and later returned to be a session musician. He has since retired from the music industry, but fans eagerly await his return!
