Jimmy Castor Bunch - It's just begun

My Track review of 'It's just begun' - The Jimmy Castor Bunch

A real classic funk track that's full of energy with strong rolling rhythms. This is one of those tunes that hasn't seemed to have aged and still cuts today. There's strong accentuated saxophone and horn riffs and punch like vocals. This is a very popular tune for break dancing because of the energy of the track. The song also featured in the movie 'Flash Dance'. A real classic tune that deserves a lot of airtime.

Mini Biography for The Jimmy Castor Bunch

Prior to when the 'The Jimmy Castor Bunch' was formed in 1972 Jimmy Castor had already been involved in the music industry for 16 years, having written and recorded his first song 'I Promise to remember' for Frankie Lymon and the Teenagers in 1956 whilst still attending High school.

He then went on to write the classic 'Hey Leroy Your Mamas Calling You in 1966 and by this time was performing as a Doo Wop singer and saxophonist throughout New York and working on Afro-latin Sessions.

The Jimmy Castor Bunch's debut album - 'Its just begun' - was with the RCA label, and how right he was!

'Troglodyte (Cave Man) was the start of the 'Bertha Butt' series of songs which helped give identity to the group.

After three LP's on RCA, they joined the Atlantic label and soon released an Album based on Jimmy's nickname 'The Everything man'. By the time 'Supersound' was released in 1975 the Jimmy Castor Bunch were internationally recognized and the single 'King Kong' reached number 1 in Japan.

'It's just begun' has been described as the 'quintessential Hip-hop track' and has been sampled a countless numbers of times, as have the majority of the Bunch's tunes, by artists including:

The Beastie Boys, The Spice Girls, Chemical Brothers, Christina Aguilera, MAARS, Kanye West, Ice Cube, Soul II Soul, Bentley Rhythm Ace, NWA, Salt ‘n' Pepper, Neneh Cherry, Marky Mark, The Jungle Brothers .... and the list goes on.

"It's just begun" is JCB's very best song ever, timeless and powerful. Fun that you listed often overlooked top tracks like "Psyche" and "LTD".

What to add? I would suggest The P-Funk gang, James Brown and Ohio Players.
